Tykes should celebrate but do need to start better

Sporting cliché dictates that you've got to celebrate victories when they occur. Yorkshire absolutely deserve to do so after their thrilling comeback win at Taunton but they'll know that they'll need to be 'on it' from the get-go it they're to back up at Edgbaston.

At last, light at the end of the tunnel, as Yorkshire put a below par start to the season behind them with a first win against Somerset at Taunton since 2017!

After a disappointing start to the contest, they clawed their way back in and this time, when they'd given themselves a fighting chance, they were good enough to take it.

Both off spinners Joe Root and Dom Bess produced the goods when they had some assistance from the pitch which, in the case of the latter as a county regular, is not often afforded to him. However, for me, just as good in their own ways were George Hill and Jack White. Hill set the tone for the day from ball one of Somerset's second innings and between them, those 22 overs for 48 runs never allowed the hosts to get off to a flyer.

George's wickets were thoroughly deserved for his unerring accuracy and there will be plenty more days when Jack will pick up three or four wickets bowling as he did. The pair were entrusted with the new ball and, when you consider Jhye Richardson and Logan van Beek are international bowlers, that speaks volumes.
