Making the decision to field first, Saltaire captain Sajad Ali said: ‘Normally, in this situation, we would bat first, but we’re hoping that they will come quite hard at us and lose some early wickets and then with our batting depth, we think we can chase any total’.
James Nixon, Addingham’s skipper, said: ‘We’re excited to be back in the final after last year; days like this don’t come along too often. We would probably have had a bat; sometimes it is nice to lose the toss and make the opposition make a decision.’
In the event, Addingham delivered a fine batting performance to set a total of 250 all out in their allocated 45 overs. Openers Jacob Parker and Ricky Palacio set a high tempo early on, Parker stroking two boundaries back past Ali in the first over of the match. The score rattled along, Palacio smashing a quickfire 60 from 60 balls, including six 4s and a six, to get Addingham off to a positive start.
