A fourth-wicket partnership of 108 between Haseeb Hameed (71) and Jack Haynes (48) enabled Nottinghamshire to fight back from 64 for three after being asked to bat first, but Yorkshire’s seam attack imposed themselves again in the final session, Ben Cliff (four for 39) and Ben Coad (two for 42) doing most of the damage.
Nottinghamshire, the 2025 champions, effectively surrendered their crown when they were beaten by Sussex at Hove last week. They began the final round still with a mathematical chance of overhauling leaders Warwickshire, although without a batting bonus point to their name that chance is further diminished.
