Woodlands beaten for first time this season - Bentley Drains Bradford League Week 6 Round-Up

Champions New Farnley inflicted a first defeat of the season on Woodlands in an absorbing Premier Division contest at the Barry Jackson Ground.

Put into bat, New Farnley made 267-7 although many in the bumper crowd felt the score was a little below par after openers Steve Bullen (74) and skipper Aidan Langley (54) provided a sound foundation which Alex Lilley built on with a fluent 53.

Of the remaining batters, only Ryan McKedry (36) took advantage of their work as Brad Schmlian (4-59) hauled Woodlands back into the contest.

New Farnley knew they had to bowl and field well to keep the powerful Woodlands batting unit in check.

Lilley set the tone with a 12 over spell of 3-37 with the new ball which kept the scoring rate in check.

Opener Matty Weston battled hard for his 51 and Henry Pearson made 41 before he was dismissed as Woodlands slipped to 141-6.

New Farnley looked firmly in control, but Muhammad Bilal (52 from 30 balls) and Scott Richardson (42) were determined that Woodlands would not go down without a fight as they added 88 from 58 balls.

They had the home side worried but once Richardson was bowled by Fletcher Coutts, with the final delivery of the 47th over, the end came quickly.

Dangerman Bilal was dismissed by Abhay Negi with the next ball, and he followed up with the wickets of Cieran Garner and Elliot Richardson. His burst of three wickets in four balls gave him figures of 3-47 and his side a 37-run win as Woodlands were all out for 230.

Townville underlined their credentials a title contenders with an emphatic 21-run win at Cleckheaton by 212.

Batting first, Townville made 307-8, powered by contributions throughout the order including Kieran Collins’ unbeaten 55, Conor Harvey’s explosive 53 from 28 balls, Sanoj Darshika’s 51 and Jack Hughes’ 46.

Harvey followed up with 3-38 as Cleckheaton collapsed to 95 all out. Tom Chippendale (4-34) was the pick of the bowlers as only James Stansfield (33no) and Jack Luxton (33), offered resistance.

Pudsey St Lawrence maintained their hold on top spot challenge with a three-wicket win over Methley at Tofts Road.

Opener Taylor Cornall (77) was the only Methley batter to get going as they were dismissed for 176. Spinner Archie Scott was the pick of the St Lawrence bowlers with 5-42.

Chasing 177, St Lawrence needed another composed innings from Mark Robertshaw, who carried his bat for 79 not out.

St Lawrence now have 99 points and are 14 ahead of Bradford & Bingley who avenged their Priestley Cup defeat by Morley as they triumphed by 95 runs at Scatcherd Lane.

Ben Moffat’s superb 100 off 103 balls and Jacob Slator’s 57 lifted Bradford & Bingley to 235-7. Overseas player Muhammad Junaid (3-78) was the pick of the Morley bowlers.

Spinner Reece Cockshott backed up Moffat’s work with match-winning figures of 5-51 from 12.4 overs as Morley were bowled out for 140, despite Sajid Azeem’s fighting 53.

Opener Kevin McDermott hit an unbeaten 126, featuring 12 fours and five sixes as Carlton piled up 283-5 on their way to a 133-run win over Jer Lane.

He was brilliantly supported late on by Farukh Alam who hammered 57 not out from only 25 balls.

Jer Lane struggled in reply and were bowled out for 150. Hamzah Iqbal (32) and Kaleel Ahmed (34no) proved to be the top scorers as Naveed Malik (4-36) and Muhammad Tariq (3-30) posed problems.

Farsley shrugged off the absence of their captain Joe Pocklington as they defeated bottom side Pudsey Congs by eight wickets.

Skipper Matthew Duce battled hard for 64 but Congs were dismissed for 78 as Ryan Blackburn (4-54) and Seamus Nazir (4-39) shared the bowling honours.

Rahul Tangirala, leading the side in Pocklington’s absence, anchored the reply with an unbeaten 84 while Shahmeer Malik finished unbeaten on 32.

DIVISION ONE

Leaders Sandal boosted their promotion hopes with a 20-run victory over Batley. Sohail Hussain fell agonisingly short of a century with 99, while Umar Abbas added an unbeaten 61as they made 244-7.

Batley responded strongly through Mounam Ejaz’s 46 from 26 balls, Sagar Trivedi (42), and Kanishk Dalal (37), but the chase fell short as they were bowled out for 219

Umar Abbas completed a fine all-round performance with 3-59 from 15 overs. Streethouse now have a 16-point lead over Bankfoot who produced a dominant display to defeat Ossett by 185 runs.

Opener Hamza struck 117 from 96 balls, striking 14 fours and five sixes, while James Lee added 53 and Usman Maqsood blasted 35 late on as Bankfoot amassed 327 all out.

Ossett never recovered from losing early wickets in reply despite Josh Wild’s aggressive 57. Lee led his side’s bowling with 4-25 while James Massheder claimed 3-17.

Yeadon are third after defeating Undercliffe by eight wickets. The visitors were restricted to 125, with Mack Hall taking 3-29 and Lewis Howard (3-27.

In reply, Mali Bardouille-Lewis anchored the chase with an unbeaten 52, sharing an opening stand with Josh Watson (32) before Yeadon eased home.

Lightcliffe registered their first win after romping to a nine-wicket triumph against struggling East Bierley.

The visitors were well placed thanks to Farakh Hussain’s aggressive 64, but a collapse followed as they slumped to 143 all out. as Hasan Raza produced figures of 4-15 and Yusuf Malik (4-37).

Lightcliffe romped to victory in only 20 overs, driven by a stunning unbeaten 95 from overseas player Hasan Raza, supported by Jordan Laban’s unbeaten 39.

Hanging Heaton edged a close contest with Birstall at Bennett Lane to keep themselves in touch with the top positions.

Birstall posted 219-9, with Henry Rush (42) and Noah Chapman (41) leading the way, while Upul Indrasiri’s spell of 3-34 proved decisive.

Hanging Heaton’s chase was built around Myles Wood’s 51, Christodoulos Bogdanos’ 45 and a late flourish from Umar Farooq, whose unbeaten 40 from 24 balls carried the hosts to victory. Despite ending on the losing side, Waseem Liaqat produced figures of 5-77 for Birstall.

Rock bottom Baildon suffered more batting misery when they were bowled out for just 59 as they plunged to an eight-wicket defeat against Crossflatts.

Rhys Mazey ripped through the home batting with 6-26 from 6.4 overs, while debut making overseas player Jody Lawrence supported with 3-32. Crossflatts completed the chase comfortably.

DIVISION TWO

Ben Brown hammered a sensational 178 from 109 balls, including 22 fours and six sixes, as Streethouse recovered from an early batting collapse to record a 190-run win over Windhill & Daisy Hill.

Brown and opener Matthew Gibson (74) shared a fifth wicket stand of 173 to rescue their side from 32-4.

Skipper Steve Roberts added 39 in a late flourish which swelled the Streethouse total to 357. Windhill battled hard in reply through Khalid Mehmood (40) and Chris Heald (35), but Zamurad Khan ripped through the innings with figures of 6-24 from nine overs as Windhill & Daisy Hill were bowled out for 167.

Second place Hartshead Moor were equally impressive at Gomersal, chasing down 154 in just 23.5 overs. The chase was dominated by Hasnat Yousaf, who smashed 73 from only 53 balls, striking eight fours and four sixes.

Earlier, Gomersal had battled to 153, with Adam Greenwood, Brandon Silverwood and Adam Holroyd all making 30, but Mohammed Khan’s excellent spell of 4-43 and Lewis Lomax’s 3-41 restricted the hosts.

Great Preston overcame Northowram Fields by 95 runs to return to the top of the table. James Conlon’s explosive 72 from 46 balls, featuring six sixes, transformed the Great Preston innings late on after useful contributions from Willem Meintjes (39) and Sam Wright (34) had laid the platform.

Northowram never threatened to challenge the total of 233 after an extraordinary collapse from 41-3 to 47-7. Despite Hazrat Abbas carrying his bat for an unbeaten 83, they were bowled out for 138. Alfie McMillan was the main destroyer with 5-32.

Keighley dropped from first to third Bowling Old Lane defeated them by six wickets. Mehrban Khan blasted 64 from 46 balls and Zeeshan Haider added 68 as Old Lane chased down the home side’s score of 228-7 with nearly nine overs remaining.

Yasar Ali’s 90 and Tinashe Gomwe’s 54 were the key contributions to Keighley’s total as Shoaib Iqbal’s discipline spell of 3-47 proved valuable for Old Lane.

Hunslet Nelson were a team in a hurry as they bowled out Buttershaw St Paul’s for 64 on their way to a seven-wicket win.

Ibrar Younas led the way with 5-28, while Patrick Hinchliffe backed him up with 4-33. Hunslet completed the chase in only 11.4 overs.

Spen Victoria are still searching for their first win after suffering a four-wicket defeat against Altofts.

Corey Roebuck’s patient 63 helped Spen Victoria reach 160-9, as Saif Tahir claimed 3-35. In reply, Dean Van Onselen struck 51 and Shamsullah Dost made 41, before Joshua Morris finished unbeaten on 35 to steer Altofts home. Samuel Carroll’s 3-39 briefly threatened a Spen comeback, but Altofts closed out victory.

DIVISION THREE

Table-topping Adwalton produced the most dominant performance of the day, piling up 316-7 at Brighouse before dismissing the hosts for only 85 to secure a crushing 231-run win.

The visitors’ innings featured contributions throughout, with Lewis Lockwood blasting 55 from 45 balls, Matthew Donohoe striking 54, Tyler Woodhouse adding 46 and Dilip Sarathy finishing with an unbeaten 40.

Brighouse never recovered after slipping to 27-4, as Nathan Cant (3-17) and Mitch Thomas (3-7) got to work. and Tyler Woodhouse finished with 2-19.

Scholes continued their strong form with a rapid chase against Liversedge. The hosts posted 157, with Wasim Nazir making 38, Matthew Crowther contributing 33, and Waqas Asaad adding 29 late on, but Hunter Jackson-Sullivan (3-43) and James Robson (3-56) kept things under control.

Scholes then raced home in only 20.3 overs, led by Shafaqat Ali’s explosive 69 from 48 balls, supported by Robson’s 31 as the visitors completed a commanding six-wicket win.

Heckmondwike & Carlinghow also strengthened their position with a convincing win at East Ardsley. Their total of 282 was built around an outstanding unbeaten 99 from Ubaid Altaf, who carried the innings after earlier support from Ovais Hussain (39) and Sadaqat Zaman’s rapid 59, which included four sixes. East Ardsley fought through Shahzad Iqbal (42) and Ashley Chapman (37), but Ubaid Altaf completed a good all-round day with 4-26, while Mustafa Bhatti added 3-55 and Muhammad Shahnawaz took 2-13 to seal victory.

Wrenthorpe enjoyed a comfortable victory over Wakefield St Michael’s. The visitors were bowled out for 142, with Cavan Connolly’s 35 and Mohammad Hamid’s 37 the main contributions, although an extraordinary 40 extras boosted the total.

Wrenthorpe’s attack shared the wickets, with Kush Chaturvedi taking 3-23 and Sam Anderson returning 3-25. The chase was dominated by Patrick Forrest’s unbeaten 96 from 94 balls, featuring 14 fours, while Alfie Holden added 36 in an opening stand worth 109.

Hopton Mills recorded the most clinical bowling display of the round. Khurram Shehzad produced outstanding figures of 6-5 from 6.4 overs, including four maidens, as Crossbank Methodists were bundled out for 74. Ben Haigh supported superbly with 4-42, before Mills cruised to victory inside 11overs thanks to Stephen Bland’s 33 and Alfie Gatehouse’s unbeaten 30.
