Bradford League Week One Round Up

The Premier Division saw some of the most eye-catching batting performances. The best came from Methley skipper Jared Warner who made 129 in his side’s 90-run win over Bradford & Bingley.

Warner scored his runs from 137 balls with three sixes and 13 fours. His second wicket partnership of 151 with opener Taylor Cornall (64) was the cornerstone of a total of 249-6. Bradford & Bingley were dismissed for 159 as Henry Bowerman top scored with 39.

Farsley’s new captain Joe Pocklington hit a superb 110 but it was not enough to save his side from a five-wicket defeat by Woodlands. He hit six sixes and five fours while newcomers Shahmeer Malik (46) and Rahul Tangirala (38) gave support in a total of 224-8.

Henry Pearson was the most successful Woodlands bowler with 4-80 and followed up with an unbeaten 37 to steer his side home in partnership with Scott Richardson (34no) after Brad Schmulian (62) had set up the successful run chase.

Newly promoted Morley opened their account with a 43-run win at Carlton which was inspired by their new overseas player Muhammad Junaid who made 91 and took 3-89.

Morley were reduced to 64-5 by Carlton new boy Jack Rogers (4-34) before Junaid and Sajid Azeem (59) revived their side with a sixth wicket stand of 113 which enabled them to post a score of 220.

Carlton found the going tough when they batted with only hard-hitting Farukh Alam (68no) making an impression as spinner Jude Roberts took 5-39 on debut.

Townville produced the most emphatic result, racking up 308-5 against Jer Lane. Kieran Collins (77), Conor Harvey (65no), Chris Grey (37no), and Jack Hughes (33) all impressed before Jer Lane were dismissed for 131, Harvey completing a fine all-round display with

New Farnley started their bid for a third successive league title with a six-wicket win over Pudsey St Lawrence.

The Saints squandered a fine opening stand of 90 between Mark Robertshaw (53) and Archie Phillipson (33) as they crumbled to 167 all out.

New Farnley slipped to 85-4 before Fletcher Coutts (62no) and Ryan McKendry (47no) took charge with an unbroken stand of 87.

Cleckheaton posted an imposing 256-9 against Pudsey Congs, driven on by Khizer Qadeer’s superb 88, alongside contributions from Muhammad Ammar (37) and Ethan Lee (30). Hassan Butt’s 72 kept the hosts competitive, but they ultimately fell short as they finished on 206-7 to lose by 50 runs. Spinner Max Chappell took 4-50.

Division One

Batley edged a low-scoring contest against Yeadon after bowling them out for just 73, with Sagar Trivedi (5-25) and Samee Arshad (5-47) doing the damage,

Batley also found batting tough as they slipped to 16-5 before Arbaab Hussain’s unbeaten 42 steered his side to a four-wicket win.

The battle of the two promoted teams saw Hanging Heaton beat Lightcliffe by 33 runs. Opener Bradley Wood (60) led the way as Hanging Heaton made 212 after being asked to bat first. Leo Flanagan (5-61) and Jordan Pickles (3-34) took the bowling honours.

A second wicket stand of 96 between Niall Lockley (79) and Jordan Laban (41) took Lightcliffe to 113-2, but their colleagues failed to cash in as their side were bowled out for 179, Muhammad Ahmadzai took 4-28.

Undercliffe’s 236-8 was built on Awaise Hussain (54) and Muhammad Faizan Zafar (66), as they defeated East Bierley by 85 runs. Mohammed Suleman’s 5-37 helped bowl out East Bierley for 151, despite 41 from Hamza Saeed.

Sandal chased down 195 against Ossett thanks to Sam Owen’s 73 and overseas player Sasindu Malshan’s 41. Saminda Ganwarige 50 was top scorer for Ossett as Jonathan Boynton posed the main threat with 4-53.

Crossflatts edged Birstall with Nadeem Safdar’s unbeaten 55 and 35 from opener Scott Etherington proving decisive as they secured a three-wicket win despite the efforts of Sam Boyden (4-35).

Birstall’s score of 178 included 52 by Sharoon Siraj and 43 from former Morley batter Henry Rush.

Bankfoot skipper James Lee took 5-28 as Baildon were bowled out for 104 after being put in. New South African batter Buron Haycock was unbeaten on 34 when Bankfoot completed a seven-wicket win.

Division Two

Windhill & Daisy Hill chased down 199 in emphatic fashion against Buttershaw St Paul’s, thanks to outstanding two unbeaten innings from new captain Simon McDermott (90no) and Asad Khan (88no) to win by seven wickets. They came together with their side reeling at 3-3 and went on to add an unbeaten 197.

Skipper Jonathan Burston (54) and Paul Carroll (57) were the top scorers in the Buttershaw St Paul’s innings. Owaise Mehmood was the pick of the bowlers with 5-48.

Streethouse secured a comfortable six-wicket win over Spen Victoria, dismissing them for just 63, with Zamurad Khan taking 4-17.

Great Preston defeated Jack Hampshire Cup holders Hunslet Nelson by five wickets. Imran Patel (5-32) restricted the hosts to 183 despite the efforts of Andy McIntosh (42) and Australian Luke Ajani (39). Jack McGahan (52) and James Conlon (54no) guided Great Preston to victory.

Keighley chased down 222 against Gomersal, with Gareth Lee producing a magnificent unbeaten 102 to anchor the innings. Lee struck three sixes and 11 fours after Australian Seth Gorman had made 60 for Gomersal.

Devastating bowling from Jake Hewitt (5-12) and new captain Lewis Lomax (4-23) saw Hartshead Moor bowl out Northowram Fields for 90 to seal a 68-run win., Hasnat Yousaf’s 52 was the key contribution in Hartshead Moor’s 158-8

Bowling Old Lane opened their campaign with a 49-run win at Altofts. Fawad Maqsood’s 60 and Mehrban Khan’s 45 helped them to a total of 224.

Altofts, despite a fighting 43 from Ben Walsh, faltered against the bowling of Shoaib Iqbal (5 -30) and were dismissed for 175.

Division Three

Wakefield St Michael’s edged a low-scoring contest against Crossbank Methodists, with Syed Shah Bukhari taking an outstanding 6-16 to dismiss the visitors for 118 before a controlled chase sealed victory, Rana Khan making 35.

Adwalton overcame Heckmondwike and Carlinghow, chasing 118 with contributions from Chris Batt (33no) and Dilip Sarathy (27no) after Elliott Carter (5-45) and Hamza Khan (4-65) impressed with the ball.

East Ardsley defeated Liversedge by 93 runs thanks to Shahzad Iqbal’s excellent 74 which took them to a total of 192 despite the bowling of Jay Rajpurohit’s 5-54. Liversedge were bowled out for 99.

Scholes chased down 106 against East Leeds with Mohammed Waseem striking 42 in a comfortable five-wicket win. The victory was set up by Kabir Bashir (4-8) as East Leeds crumbled after opener Kashif Rehman made 46.

Wrenthorpe delivered the most emphatic result, bowling Brighouse out for just 53 before racing to a nine-wicket victory, with Alfie Holden making 35not out.
