Bentley Drains Bradford Premier League Round 2 Review

It ended the champions’ run of 33 league games without defeat and was secured with 15 runs from the last over from Fletcher Coutts thanks to James Swallow hitting the final twol balls for four.

Pyrah struck two sixes and 11 fours as he took centre stage as New Farnley’s total of 273-8 was chased down. His positive stroke play was supported by the efforts of Hector Bowerman (37), Ben Moffat (35), Matthew Swallow (34) and Matthew Swallow (33).

Another key figure in Bradford & Bingley’s triumph was spinner Reece Cockshott. He took (4-64) and put the brakes on the New Farnley scoring as they declined from 172-3 when captain Aidan Langley departed for 71 to 213-7.

Despite the clatter of wickets Ryan McKendry stood firm and made 98 before being dismissed in the final over of the innings.

Townville sit on top of the Premier Division table after defeating Methley by 54 runs. Overseas player6-67 Sanoj Darshika (60) and Abdul Wahid (47) top scored as Townville were bowled out for 266 – a total boosted by a last wicket stand of 51 between Tom Liam Booth.

The pick of the Methley bowlers was Charlie McMurran. Last season he did not take a single wicket away from home but today he took 6-67.

Methley started well with openers Kyle Welsh (58) and Taylor Cornall (48) sharing a stand of 98. Skipper Jared Warner made 44 before his side’s innings unraveled against the bowling of Jack Hughes (5-63) and Conor Harvey (3-52) as they were dismissed for 212.

Woodlands is just a point behind Townville after their comfortable seven-wicket win over Jer Lane. Former Jer Lane opener Mosun Hussain (90no) and Henry Pearson (57no) shared an unbroken stand of 97 as they steered their side to their victory target.

Jer Lane had found the going tough when they batted first. Their captain Yasir Ali (52) battled hard and was top scorer in a total of 192.

Morley are enjoying life on their return to the top flight. They defeated Pudsey Congs by six wickets to make it two wins from two games.

Their winter recruitment seems to be paying dividends with overseas player Muhammad Junaid and spinner Jude Roberts again playing lead roles.

Roberts (5-68) took his second five-wicket haul and was backed by Junaid (3-51) as Congs were restricted to 214-9. Callum Oliver (62) and Nick Lindley (39) were the main contributors.

After opener Finn Brookes (50) had given the Morley innings early impetus, Junaid saw them home with an unbeaten 59.

Josh Priestley (82no) and Mark Robertshaw (74) shared a fifth wicket stand of 130 that enabled Pudsey St Lawrence to ease to a five-wicket win over Carlton.

They came together with their side 78-4 after Jack Rogers (3-51) had posed early problems as they pursued a Carlton score of 229-8.

James Van Der Merwe (60), Aarush Shinde (41) and Farukh Alam (41) provided the bulk of Carlton’s runs as St Lawrence’s new overseas player Ankit Sharma took 4-38 with his left arm spin.

Farsley recorded their first win as they beat Cleckheaton by three wickets, but they made hard work of it.

They looked to be cruising to victory as skipper Joe Pocklington (85) and Rahul Tangirala (84) shared an opening stand of 175 in pursuit of Cleckheaton’s total of 234, but they collapsed to 203-6 as Khizer Qadeer (5-25) set their nerves jangling.

Lachlan Doidge (48), Muhammad Ammer (46) and Qadeer (37) were the top scorers when Cleckheaton batted first.

Division One

Sandal lead Division One after defeating Baildon by four wickets at Jenny Lane to register their second win.

Baildon’s innings of 162 was anchored by Will Kelly (75), supported by James Skingle (30), as Sohail Hussain (4-18) and Umar Abbas (3-20) impressed.

Sam Owen (43) and Umar Abbas (35) guided Sandal to victory despite the loss of a couple of late wickets.

Hanging Heaton are second after winning a thrilling derby with Batley by two wickets with three balls to spare. Charlie Kendall (55no) hit the winning boundary as Batley’s score of 249-9 was chased down.

The foundations for the successful chase were provided by a second wicket partnership of 130 between Luke Patel (64) and Bradley Wood (54).

Sagar Trivedi impressed with 84 for Batley while Arbaab Hussain (58) and Akbar Ahmed (37) also made runs against a bowling attack in which Tom Lindsay (3-44), and Muhammad Ahmadzai (3-59) were the main wicket takers.

The runs flowed at Lightcliffe with overseas player Sharoon Siraj (159) and new skipper Noah Chapman (112) making centuries as visitors Birstall compiled a score of 373-6 as they eased to a 155-run win.

Siraj hit eight sixes and 16 fours while Chapman – playing against his old club – struck two sixes and 13 fours. Together they added 222 for the third wicket. Waseem Liaqat chipped in with 43.

Lightcliffe’s reply of 218 featured a determined 92 from Jordan Laban who was supported by Yusuf Malik (40) in a third wicket stand of 129. Once they were parted the innings rapidly declined to 218 all out, Siraj taking 4-58.

Ossett took just 23.1 overs to overhaul East Bierley’s total of 180 to record an eight-wicket win Callum Geldart (77no),led the way supported by Josh Wild (33)), after East Bierley’s total had been built around Hamza Saeed (40) and Ben Heritage (36). Zain Ul Abdin (4-41) and Geldart (3-34) led the Ossett bowling.

There was a dramatic finish at Ryshworth Park where the game between Crossflatts and Undercliffe ended in a tie.

Mohammed Suleman (4-84) proved to be the hero for Undercliffe. Crossflatts looked favourites when they needed six runs from the final over to overhaul Undercliffe’s 251-8. but Suleman had other ideas. He claimed two wickets and yielded just five runs.

The final ball of the game saw Umayr Hewitt (37) stumped by Adam Qurban as he tried to make the winning hit. Abs Dawood (53) and Scott Etherington (42) had provided early runs for Crossflatts while Gulsheraz Ahmed (61), Adam Qurban (44) and Faizan Zafar (42), were Undercliffe’s main contributors.

Adeel Ashraf impressed with bat and ball as Yeadon defeated Bankfoot by five wickets at Wickets Close. He took 6-54 as Bankfoot got bowled out for 164 and followed up with an unbeaten 55 as he and skipper Josh Watson (37) steered their side home with an undefeated stand of 108. The highlight for Bankfoot was a blistering 22 ball 53 from Quadratullah Azizi which featured eigh sixes.

Division Two

Leaders Great Preston produced a dominant performance as they romped to a nine-wicket win over Windhill & Daisy Hill.

Opener Moosa Azad ked the way with an unbeaten 100 from 71 balls which featured three sixes and 14 fours. He was supported by Cody Mac Vay (54no) as Windhill & Daisy Hills score of 168 was chased down in 25 overs.

Windhill’s total had been built around Khalid Mehmood (42) and Asad Khan (27) as Imran Patel (4-47), James Conlon (4-31) led the Great Preston bowling.

Hartshead Moor’s overseas player Muhammad Waleed made a sparkling 118 as they scored a 29-run win at Keighley. Waleed struck three sixes plus 13 fours and was joined in a fifth wicket alliance of 113 by Craig Field (50) as Hartshead Moor posted a total of 273.

Wasim Khaliq (4-55) and Zeeshan Qasim (3-99) were the best of the Keighley bowlers while Yasar Ali (56) and Tinashe Gomwe (52) top scored in their reply of 244. Jake Hewit (4-73) posed the main threat.

Streethouse recorded their second win after dismissing Gomersal for 126 and easing to a seven-wicket win. Dishane Rodrigo (58no) and Matthew Gibson (44) led the way after Michael Bates had earlier taken 3-2.

A superb unbeaten 101 from Ben Grech (101), alongside a crucial fourth wicket partnership of 151 with Shahzaib Khan (70) helped Northowram Fields to defeat Altofts by five wickets. Grech’s innings contained three sixes and 13 fours.

Earlier, Altofts had posted a total of 232 thanks to Saif Tahir (54), Luke Whitmore (40) and Joshua Morris (33), as Anish Rai (4-42) and Ahsan Alishan (3-51) enjoyed success with the ball.

Hunslet Nelson proved too strong for newly promoted Spen Victoria as they ran out 66-run winners.

A knock of 77 by Sam Thewlis was the highlight of Hunslet Nelson’s 206 all out as James Russell claimed 5-55. Spen were bowled out for 138 with Chris Allen scoring 46 not out.

In one of the closest contests of the day, Buttershaw St Pauls edged past Bowling Old Lane’s total of 238 by one wicket with two balls to spare.

Amjid Hussain (72) and Jonathan Burston (46) led the run chase while Billy Carroll (23no) saw them home

Earlier, Bowling Old Lane had posted a competitive total through Chaudhary Anwar Ul Haq (57) and Fawad Maqsood (45), but Buttershaw held their nerve to secure victory. Iqrar Amjad (4-52) and Rupankar Majumdar (4-32) were the best of the St Paul’s bowlers.

Division Three

Ubaid Zia (144), and Rana Khan (117) hit centuries as Wakefield St Michaels piled up the new season’s highest total of 411-5 as they scored a crushing 294-run win over Brighouse.

Zia struck four sixes and 21 fours while Khan hit a six plus 19 fours. Skipper Ash Hale (63) added 213 for the third wicket with Zia while overseas player Noah Barone (52) inflicted further suffering on the Brighouse bowlers,

Craig Ellison (5-17) and Rana Khan (3-20) wrapped up victory for St Michael’s by helping dismiss Brighouse for 117, Thoufiq Babu (33) was top scorer.

Adwalton produced a clinical all-round performance to defeat East Leeds, bowling them out for 101 before racing to a nine-wicket win in just 11.1 overs.

The victory was set up by Elliott Carter’s 5-45 haul, while the chase was led by Jake Rogers (34no).

Wrenthorpe continued their strong start with a comfortable six-wicket win at Liversedge. Skipper Paul Cooper made 60 for the home side but lacked support as they were bowled out for 120 with Alfie Holden taking 4-13. Wrenthorpe had no trouble easing to victory.

Crossbank Methodists secured a convincing victory over Heckmondwike & Carlinghow posting 263-9 before bowling their opponents out for 157.

Hasan Malik (41), Asif Amir (37) and a rapid Usman Fareed (41) led the way for Crossbank , while Heckmondwike’s reply was led by Qamar Shahzad (51) and Sadaqat Zaman (27).

Scholes recorded a solid win over Hopton Mills CC, scoring 220 all out before dismissing the hosts for 156.

The innings was anchored by Australian Hunter Jackson-Sullivan (55). Hopton Mills’ reply was led by Connor Heywood (58).
