Opinion: It’s pretty simple. Isn’t it?

Time and again I hear complaints about not being able to knock over the tail. Time and again I say that’s utter rubbish. I can’t think of any team who regularly cleans up the last three or four wickets any more because there aren’t too many genuine tailenders, in the old fashioned sense of that expression, playing the game.

Think of how many times Yorkshire’s tail has got the team out of trouble, with recent examples against Hampshire and in the first innings at Surrey prime examples. I said it before this match, I said it before this season and nothing has changed. It’s consistent runs that are needed and once the batters begin to truly perform the bowlers will, more often than not, complete the job.
