The former England man delivered with bat and ball to prevent Ben Cliff’s greatest day as a county cricketer so far from denting the visitor’s hopes of lifting their first championship title.

The first session saw Overton (64) and Migael Pretorious (58) defy an inspired 8-76 from Cliff to drag Somerset to 201 all out, a deficit of 11 which seemed fanciful after his early three-wicket burst reduced the league leaders to 86-8.
