It was on 8 April 1882 - at The Regent Hotel in Leamington Spa – that Warwickshire County Cricket Club came into being, and from 1885 Edgbaston became the club’s base. This was also the year that the Bear & Ragged Staff emblem was adopted by the club.
Warwickshire made their First-Class debut in 1894, playing Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge and the club’s debut season in the County Championship came in the following year, 1895, when they finished joint sixth (Yorkshire were third – Surrey finished top of the pile).
Altogether, Warwickshire have been County Champions on eight occasions -1911, 1951, 1972, 1994, 1995, 2004, 2012 & 2021.
