It began, as these days often do, with a look out of the bedroom window and an anxious check on the weather.
Then came the familiar ritual of scrolling through the forecast Apps. BBC Weather suggested light showers. The Met Office gave Headingley a 75 per cent chance of rain for much of the day. AccuWeather, “don’t even bother pal!” On paper, it didn’t look promising but there was one compelling reason to ignore the forecast.
On day three, I had watched 15 Surrey wickets tumble as Yorkshire seized complete control of their Rothesay County Championship Division 1 match. Harry Brook a “promising” allrounder had led the charge with three for 11 off 7.1 overs, as Ryan Patel, Jamie Smith and Adam Thomas were all sent back to the pavilion in a remarkable second innings collapse.
