A Proper Cricket Ground in the Heart of Somerset..

There are cricket grounds and then there are proper cricket grounds. Taunton’s Cooper Associates County Ground sits proudly in the latter category.

A place where the outfield is lush, the locals are knowledgeable and the weather behaves like it’s under some sort of ancient Quantock spell. Rain hammering down behind the pavilion, blazing sunshine over mid wicket and a stubborn grey cloud hovering exclusively above the Yorkshire contingent. Standard.

I spent several days there as Yorkshire took on Somerset in the Rothesay County Championship, and it reminded me exactly why county cricket still matters.
