After becoming an unfairly maligned figure at the national level during his international calls with England, Dom Bess has quietly developed into a thoroughly dependable cricketer in his five years at Yorkshire. Skilled in all three disciplines, Bess is an off-spinner by trade but his batting has seen him inch towards being an ever-present in all three domestic formats.
Hailing from Sidmouth, Bess comes from cricketing stock, with three of his cousins – Joshua, Luke and Zachary – having played for Devon. It was Dom, however, who took the leap to a major county despite the modesty with which Bess discusses his early cricketing career. A keen rugby player and a self-confessed “little porker” as a kid, Bess has previously attributed his weight to his decision to bowl off-spin, managing to avoid the long run-up required to bowl seam.
