In Profile: Ami Campbell

Born in Newcastle in 1991, Campbell grew up around cricket, with her father playing in the navy and for Northumberland and her mother working at the local cricket club. This meant many summers playing boy’s cricket for Ami, until the opportunity to get involved in a women’s set up arose. This no doubt contributed to her combative nature as a cricketer, and she has described “feisty, naughty” players such as Kevin Pietersen and Katherine Sciver-Brunt as her favourites.

Campbell got her first taste of women’s county cricket for Northumberland, who her dad Chris and Uncle Nigel had represented at minor counties level. Astonishingly, she made her debut 21 years ago, in a County Challenge cup game against local rivals Durham.
