Firstly, I don’t think I’m ever likely to see a man come in at number nine and hit 79 off 30 balls for what remains of my life and congratulations to Craig Overton for doing that. It’s one thing being given an opportunity but it’s another thing being good enough to take it.
Before the match I talked about how big game players do their thing in big games. On the night, it turned out, Overton proved he is a man for the big occasion but how did he get there and with a ball to spare?
For starters, this match always had a different feel to it than any of the previous Headingley Blast fixtures this season. In some respects it felt very low key, with the lowest crowd of the campaign – around 1,800 - turning up due to the World Cup semi-final that involved England.
